How to make Load Balancing and Wyse Winterminals work over a WAN with different subnets

If you are over a wan are you using different Subnet masks using Wyse Winterminals you need to specify one of the citrix servers in the farm to be the master browser for citrix especially if you are using the older 2700 series winterminals.

This article was written before Metaframe/Winframe 1.8 was released. In the new versions there is a tab under Citrix Client Administration Utility called ICABrowser. All you need to do is click on the server that you want to be the ICA master browser and check the box that says always be the master browser.

You need to be aware that if you add a 1.8 box to an existing 1.7 network it will become the master browser regardless of the settings in the registry on the 1.7 boxes. You can make the 1.8 box never be the ICA master browser by selecting the appropriate field on the browser page. The below instructions will still work on both WF and MF though.

In order to make one of the servers the master browser it is a registry hack. (Remember you need to enter a master ica browser ip under the drivers screen of Wyse Winterminal and check the load driver box)

Caution Backup the registry first and yada yada yada, all dislaimers apply The registry hack is as follows hkey_local_machine-system-currentcontrolset-services-ICAbrowser-Parameters-IsMasterBrowser. Set the dword editor value from 0 to 1.

This makes that server the master ica browser of the farm. You can then set the browser IP value of this server in the client ICA files.
